Things you need to know and do:

1.      Punctuality: Class starts on time at 8:30 a.m. Opening discussion based on the Daily Discussion Forum input starts us out on most days. Be there. We will have you input on the Moodle Forum, but you don't want to lose participation points for missing the discussion.

2.      Staying with it: We meet all the way to 12:30, with one 20 minute break and one 10 minute break. Do not plan to leave early; we will always work right up to the 12:30 mark.

3.      Absence Policy: Attendance at all classes is mandatory. You are allowed one absent day, and that only if you are ill or have a family emergency that requires you to be away. If you miss more than one day, it may result in serious reduction in grade or loss of credit for the course. Be mindful that each day of class equates to one full week of school in the regular semester.

4.      Due dates: Required essays must be in on time; late work simply cannot be accepted unless there is some exceptional circumstance of a serious and compelling nature. Because we are working within a highly compressed time frame, handing work in on time is essential.

5.      Homework/reading: Expect to spend 3-4 hours each day on homework, which about what you would expect to spend per week in this course during the regular semester terms. Do not get behind!

6.      Grading : Quarter 1 will begin on the first day of the session and end on the Tuesday of Week 2. Quarter 2 will begin on the Wednesday of Week 2 and end on Thursday of Week 3. The Friday of Week 3 is Final Exam Day. Your quarter grades will be based on the following components which will be calculated the same as in the regular school term with each quarter at 37.5% and the final exam at 25%:

a.       Participation—this includes listening and taking notes, offering questions and input to discussions, and sharing in group work

b.      Two Major Collaboration Presentations, one assigned in each quarter over each of the weekends of the course.

c.       Daily Discussion Forum—these will happen most mornings, but not necessarily all morning. These will be based on your input into the Moodle Daily Discussion Forum.

d.      Final Exam—this will be worth 25% of your semester grade, just as in the regular term. No one exempts! All must read the exam paper to the class, and all students must stay to hear all the others.
